I run Utobo, and hiring globally is a core part of how we operate. When you're bringing on contractors and full-time employees across different countries, the platform you use isn't just a tool — it's infrastructure. Get it wrong and you're chasing down compliance issues, late payments, and onboarding delays that cost you real momentum.

I tested both Deel and Multiplier — not in sandbox demos, but in actual hiring scenarios with real contracts, real verifications, and real support tickets. Here's what I found.

Why I Needed an EOR Platform in the First Place

Employer of Record (EOR) platforms exist to solve a specific problem: hiring talent in countries where you don't have a legal entity. I got a response quickly, and more importantly, the response was specific and useful. Not a templated reply pointing me to a help article, but an actual answer from someone who understood the question.

Then I Tried Multiplier

Where Things Started to Break

Multiplier looks reasonable in a demo. The UI is clean, the pitch is credible, and on paper the feature set seems comparable to Deel. But the experience of actually using it told a different story.

Employee verification alone took over a week in some cases. If you're hiring fast and building momentum, that single delay compounds into a real problem. A new hire left waiting a week before they can even start creates a terrible first impression — and it's entirely the platform's fault, not yours.

Support responses were slow and, when they came, lacked accountability. Queries went unresolved across multiple exchanges. I found myself following up on my own follow-ups — which is the exact opposite of what an EOR platform should do.

Beyond the support issues, I encountered bugs in the product itself. Glitches in workflows you'd expect to be bulletproof — payroll-adjacent processes where errors carry real consequences. This isn't a minor UX inconvenience. It's a trust problem. When you're processing payroll and dealing with compliance, you need the platform to just work. Multiplier didn't clear that bar consistently.

My Honest Take

This review isn't really about features. Both platforms have a feature list long enough to fill a sales deck. What separates them is execution — the day-to-day experience of actually using the product when there's something at stake.

Deel executes well. Multiplier, at least in my experience, does not — not consistently enough to trust with something as important as your global hiring operations.

The common counterargument is price. Multiplier can appear cheaper in certain configurations. But when you factor in the time your team spends chasing verification delays, the cost of a bad first impression on a new hire, and the risk of a compliance issue surfacing because support was too slow to respond — the operational friction costs you far more than any difference in monthly fees.

If you're serious about hiring globally, use Deel.

It's not the flashiest recommendation — but it's the one I'd stake my hiring operations on. Fast, reliable, and genuinely supported. The platform that lets you move, rather than the one that makes you wait.
